Further Training

There are a wide range of training and development courses available within the oil & gas industry - depending on the career you have chosen, you may need specific safety training, or perhaps a more generic course to help you transition into a new environment.

New to the oil & gas industry?  

An industry awareness course would be beneficial to attend.  These types of courses will explain how the industry functions and give you an introduction to the many terms and acronyms used.

Health and Safety is paramount within the oil & gas industry and extensive training is required if you are to work offshore.There are over 140 OPITO approved training providers based in the UK, all of which can assist with the essential offshore safety training.By looking at the job profile for the role you are applying for, you will be able to see if this training is a requirement.It is always best to secure a position within the industry first prior to spending your own funds on safety training – this will not guarantee you a job and oil & gas employers are generally prepared to pay for offshore survival training for the right candidate.

You may find it beneficial to look at soft skills training which would be broadly applicable to a number of roles and disciplines with in oil & gas. Soft skills are just as important as technical or ‘hard’ skills and can benefit you in the long term.

Technical training courses are also available and would benefit various roles within the industry – the Institutes can offer advice on additional technical training, broken down by discipline.
