The aim of the Minimum Industry Safety Training programme (MIST) is to increase the initial base line training available to new starts and introduce the safety elements required by all employees working in the offshore Oil and Gas industry giving an appreciation of the potential hazards and controls that might be encountered.
The MIST course consists of nine separate modules following the basic safety elements designed to focus delegate attention on their personal responsibility for safety thus influencing their behaviour and attitude towards their co-workers, the installation and the environment.
Taught over a two day period that will consist of both theoretical and practical sessions, delegates will be required to demonstrate their level of knowledge and understanding of each module by completing an exam.
Once completed, the delegate will be awarded an OPITO approved certificate that will be valid for 4 years - MIST will be revalidated via an online assessment.
By the end of the MIST course, delegates will be able to complete various learning outcomes; including:
- Understanding the various regulations relating to working offshore
- Have an understanding of various regulations and subjects relating to working offshore, including safety observation assessments, risk assessments using a risk matrix, manual handling and lifting of hazardous goods and the completion of the key elements of PTW documentation
The OPITO approved training course can be carried out at a number of OPITO approved training providers across the UK.
