It involves full-time employment at an oil & gas company (yes, that includes a salary) and on-the-job training, where you will receive invaluable practical experience and work towards a recognised industry qualification.
A number of apprenticeship schemes have a period of ‘classroom’ time, which normally takes place at a local college. After this, you will work for an oil & gas company, gaining practical experience which could even involve trips offshore.
You will be up against some tough competition if you decide to apply – modern apprenticeships are very popular! You may be asked to complete an ‘aptitude test’ for example – don’t panic, it’s not as bad as it sounds.
